What is Kitten Foster
Kitten Foster was created as an adjunct to the adoption program to help us focus on finding great homes for kittens. By providing a program for kittens, we are proactively preventing years of breeding by sterilizing these animals before their first heat cycle. The core mission of Spaymart is, and always has been, to reduce euthanasia rates at local animal control facilities. Homeless kittens represent an important piece of the puzzle if we are to solve pet-overpopulation.
Foster Application (for the Greater New Orleans area)
How it Works
Participants from the public agree to foster kittens until they are old enough for adoption. Prior to homing, all kittens are sterilized, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and treated for parasites.
To qualify, kittens must be free-roaming and no more than 4 months of age. Vetting services are offered to the public at drastically reduced prices by participating veterinarians. The program is based on a voucher system that must be accessed through program coordinators.
Adoption opportunities are offered to participants through high-traffic Petsmart and Petco stores who have partnered with Spaymart, or participants may access the program to take advantage of discounted services and secure their own homes. Last year alone the program facilitated over 300 kitten adoptions!!
