Shirley

Shirley

Shirley had become street smart at a very early age. She grew up in a commercial area with dogs, cars and countless other perils.  She hung around a strip mall with numerous eateries, including hamburger joints and pizza parlors. The leftovers weren’t so bad and several of the shop keepers kept dried kibble available to Shirley and many of her little friends. Families of kittens were born generation after generation. And for the most part, the cats were well tolerated. Life was tough but manageable, until news of Katrina circulated. Feeders begin to fear for the lives of those cats they looked after on a daily basis. Shirley’s caretaker decided it was best to humanely trap and remove her before the hurricane hit. Shirley didn’t resist the trap, but quickly took the bait, and left the only life she had ever known forever. She was saddened upon reaching the SpayMart shelter, and stayed to herself. She missed the familiarity of her life and all her friends. But as time passed, she made new friends and buried the past. All she needs now is a new owner to share her new life.
