Karen Leggio Nugent

Karen graduated from the University of New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and is a recently retired Louisiana CPA.

She began her career with one of the then “Big 8” CPA firms, serving clients in a variety of industries. Karen later worked as an internal auditor for Hibernia Bank and as a financial analyst for LL&E, an oil and gas exploration and production company. In 1983, she joined Louisiana Medical Mutual Insurance Company (LAMMICO), a medical professional liability insurance company, as Controller. During her 40 years with LAMMICO, Karen held several positions including Vice President of Finance, Executive Vice President and Divisional Vice President of Support Services.

Karen first became acquainted with SpayMart 15 years ago when she adopted the first of two wonderful cats through the organization. She is strong advocate for SpayMart’s mission and regularly volunteers at its fundraising events and monthly pop-up spay/neuter clinics.
